I have spent an enormous amount of time in the development of this kit.
This kit will fit a Revox PR99 MK 1
The Revox machines are great but the forward and reverse wind motor power is known to be a problem. They often lose their ability to wind and rewind efficiently. This can be caused by the motor, but more often than not it is due to tape drag across the tape path.
There are a number of steps to take to get better transport:
1. Thoroughly clean the path of any residue. (Use IPA and not methanol) and make sure your tape is not suffering from sticky shed (usually on black or black-back coated tapes only)
2. Replace the supply side tape guide bearing
3. Replace the take up side guide with a bearing
4. A slight amount of wear on the tension arms will add significant drag. Sleeve the tension arms with a low friction carbon sleeve. (this reduces drag and protects the tension arm from further damage)
 
This kit of parts supplies 2 tension arm carbon sleeves and 1 bearing and shims. This kit will improve tape transport and can be fit in seconds.
 
If this does not go the whole way to improving the transport then you will need new bearings in your motor or a larger resistor to reduce the reverse drive on the donor reel motor.
